In our Romaria Festival Tour, you will:

- see the Procession to the Sea - the high point of the festivities  and a testimony of religious devotion - on August 20th;

 

- see the streets of Viana do Castelo adorned with floral carpets in honor of Nossa Senhora da Agonia (patron saint of fishermen);

 

- see the ethnographic.  It is tradition to wear bride costumes, “mordoma” and “lavradeira” costumes, which the Minho locals wear on festival days to beautify themselves and the city. They also display beautiful gold ornaments on their chests;

- hear the liveliness of drums and concertinas that encourage everyone to dance, especially the locals who perform the region’s traditional dances;

- hear a lot of tradicional music in the streets, in the corets by locals musical bands , spetcacles in stages all over the city..;

- see the show caled "Gigantones e Cabeçudos" (carnival giants dancing), the nightly fireworks including the most famous firework, the "Serenata" (on Sunday night)

- live and feel the day and the night

 

 

The “Somos todos Romaria”project (which can be understood and translated as “We are tradition”) is the new official branding for the festival. In its second year running, the objective is to promote the largest Romaria in Portugal. A promotion which is unique as it showcases an emblematic festival on the inside and out, a celebration at its very best.
